Build Your Dream Home From Scratch

I’ve wanted to post a design project on here for some time but either don’t have the time or completed photos, so I’ve decided to take the plunge and start with the big one!

_______

Ever dreamt of building your own home?

It’s a lot more involved than a simple renovation or freshen up, but the rewards are not to be underestimated! Sure there’s plenty of home building and renovation shows and magazines out there, but there’s nothing quite like going through it yourself.

Scott and I are in the super fortunate position to be starting out on this journey and there will be much sweat and hard work along the way! I wanted to share our journey with you from the very beginning, starting with a blank piece of paper, watching the design take shape, through breaking ground, fitting-out the interior, landscaping the gardens to the finished product.

Samples, samples samples!

This is going to be an ongoing thread, adding steps as we go. We’ll be balancing this with other work commitments, our wedding and some other building projects - all fun and games! I’ve added a special tag home build to this thread of posts so you can look at them all in one place from the style school in the menu, or by clinking the link above under the post title or in this text.

I’ve broken the start of the project down in to small stages that I will share with you - like your own design coach, to help you along your own creative journey, however big or small. Step 1 will be looking at the surrounding area and this is to make sure the architecture and layout of the house on the plot responds correctly to the neighbouring properties. This is so important if you are to be successful gaining that all important planning permission!

As always I have a board setup on the 101010 Pinterest page for this project andthose avid pinners out there can check it out. This is where I start to get some ideas together of the architecture, interiors, accessories, garden and smaller details.

I am so excited to get started - but honestly a little nervous because there’s so much to do and a blank piece of paper feels really daunting.

Get organised - but still have fun!

A mug of tea and coffee at the ready please!

This the moment in time to order that sketchbook you’ve always wanted, check there’s plenty of space in your lever/box file and get your mits on some foamboard - it’s going to get creative!
